Miro Dance Theatre invites audiences to a behind-the-scenes look at the film and video work of Miro co-Artistic Director Tobin Rothlein. For over a decade, Rothlein has explored the intersections of video, live performance and visual arts with an emphasis on movement and the human body. Beginning with the company’s roots, Miro will screen a selection of documentary, narrative, and performance film work including Swan featuring Leslie Carothers and Miro's Amanda Miller, Song of the Body featuring Dancers of the Pennsylvania Ballet, the company’s early work with Phrenic New Ballet, and a sneak-peak of new works-in-progress. As part of the Open Studio, longtime friend and award-winning experimental filmmaker Maria Teresa Rodriguez will lead an open discussion with audience members as we explore the advantages and challenges of creating and filming dance for the camera.
